new to Capture One 5 and can't figure out something simple
Hi there,
so...on a really basic level all I often need to do is access a project on a drive and edit the raw images. It can't be true that capture one makes you duplicate your raw files when importing them to its browser...can it?? I mean that would seem completely unnecessary, but the user manual being what it is, and the software's terms for things (sessions, etc) don't make it completely clear how to manage this.
If for instance I start a "session" and find the "location" where my files are, they don't show up in the browser, and if I then "import" them to that session, the software makes duplicates of all those files.
can someone please explain? I'm sure I'm just being dense.
Thank you!

Indeed not necessary to duplicate files. Opening the folder with raw files is all you need to do. Check whether you have the proper folder selected. 0 -
Thanks...duh. I actually didn't even understand that one was able to access the system files in the browser. so, what is the session business? like, why bother? I mean i understand it in tethered mode i suppose, but what's the point of an "untethered session" 0 -
Organization, if you choose.
The feature is there if you need it but you're not restricted to it's use.0 -

I have been using C1 5 Pro since last Fall. It took me awhile to understand its organization, which is actually very logical and straightforward. Sessions are a useful way to manage image collections. The real breakthrough for me was when I discovered how to use the "Move To" and "Favorites" folders, and I suggest that you do the same.
C1 does not have the sophisticated cataloging functions that are available in some competing programs, but for many of us, it has all that we really need.
