Help: Cap1 Exports Much Larger File Sizes Than Lightroom

I have just tried this on my Winn 7 machine and got a 75kb file from a 5184 x 3456 pixel original.

That was slightly less than the 95kb estimate that was shown in the Process Summary tool.

However if I set the Format for the output to be JPG Quickproof I get a very different estimated size. also changing the format seems not to be guaranteed to retain the initially specified Quality percentage and that can make a big difference to the output size.

So, no you should not expect to see such a large output.

I would suggest experimenting with the settings to see what sizes you get. Do you use a watermark?

The embedded thumbnail can add in size significantly for small sized images. You can disable it in CO8 on Mac.

Paul, I'm not familiar with the feature you are describing. What is it and how do I disable it?

Grant- thanks but not watermark on these.

    -M,
Depending on your workflow. If you use Export Images:

File menu > Export Images > Variants > File tab > File icon (box) Create thumbnails on save

    or if you use Process:

Output tool tab > Process Recipe tool > File tab > File icon (box) Create thumbnails on save

I use the second method, Output tool tab with a process recipe. File Icon is checked "on" for 'Create thumbnails on save'. Should this be off?

I tried it with the File Icon box unchecked and the export file size did reduce significantly to 66 KB. What makes that File Icon add so much unseen/unneeded data?

....Doesn't such a small JPEG export compromise image quality? Most of my CO8 exported JPEGs from RAW > TIFF are about 2 MB for 2000 x 1600 px.

    RedRobin-
In this case quality isn't an issue since I only need a small-sized (600 x 400 pixel) image for registration. For larger images such as for website presentation I use 1500 pixel images, which are larger but better quality.

You are assuming Quality 50 in Lightroom = Quality 50 in CaptureOne. That may not be the case, you may have to lower the setting in Capture One to get similar compression. Opening a support case could probably confirm that.
