    If and when a new major release will arrive is up to its maker, Phase One. If an when you will upgrade (by paying the upgrade fee) is entirely up to you. You are not forced by anyone, but a new camera, or a new operating system can make this a 'must'. But it is still your call.

    Yes, I agree, i'm not complaining.

    I was just wondering, as I am new to this program, is Pro 9 just around the corner, in wich case i will wait, or if it is likly to be some time off, in which case i will buy now.

    I know you are not complaining and it is a valid question for anybody buying software that has is regularly upgraded. Point is, nothing is pre-announced. You could contact an Ambassador for advice (link in the signature).

    Also you will generally find that when a new version comes out, existing users can get it for an upgrade price which is rather less than buying new.
