Anyone running Capture one on an i5 w/ 8GB surface pro
I've found a few posts on the 'net about people running capture one on a surface 3/4/pro, but I haven't found anyone really listing out the specs of their tablet. I'm looking at getting either a i5/8GB or i7/8GB surface pro soon to do occasional tethered capture. I won't be doing heavy editing, more just using it as a giant preview monitor for shoots in studio, so I'm thinking it should be fine with either the i5 or i7 and 8GB of ram, but I would really hate to order the wrong tablet (although the 16GB i7 is ~500$ more) just to find out it's really sluggish.
If anyone has an i5 or i7 w/ 8GB of ram (could be a SP4 or nSP) could you share your experiences?
Thanks!

I tether shoot to a Lenovo T450 which has an i5 5300U without any trouble, so the i5 Surface Pro with the 7300U shouldn't cause any problems 0 -
I can't speak to Surface pros but I use both i5 & i7 machines in macbooks and overall the i5 keeps up pretty well compared to the i7. I understand this may be apples and oranges comparing two entirely different systems but I suspect some things relate. The largest difference in performance I've found is in processing out photos. Processing 3000 5Dmk3 CR2's to full size JPG's will take the i5 (dual core) around 10 hours. The i7 will do it in 2-3 hours. Had I known that I likely would have upgraded to a higher performance processor but most of my processing is not done on the i5 machine so its not a deal breaker for me. Having a quad core i5 as opposed to dual core I would expect to help in this situation as well.
These are both 16GB ram machines but anytime I've monitored system RAM while Capture One is under a heavy work load, I don't recall ever seeing it using more that 8GB ram, and usually less than that. I suspect you'd be fine there so long as you're not running other software at the same time that uses a lot of RAM.0 -
thanks both of you. Since I won't be doing major editing on this, only capturing, I think the 8GB version will be enough, and since I qualify for a military discount, the difference is ~500$, making the i5 a better choice.
