Libraries and Catalogs
Currently I import my images into Capture One 20 using Catalogs that I group into folders. So, for example, I have a catalog called Graffiti. In Finder my images are stored in folders that are ordered chronologically. So I import a group of graffiti images from a given Folder into the Graffiti Catalog. When I do this two things are supposed to happen as far as I can tell. The first is that the images show up in Capture One 20 under a given dated Folder, reflecting the structure in Finder. The image is also shows up under Date, reflecting the year, month, and day. But here is the problem. When I highlight In Catalog some of my graffiti images which show under a given date are not shown under Folders above. In Folders I have, for example, a folder under 2010 with a couple of images shown. But below under Date under 2010 eight images are shown to be present. Basically I am trying to understand why the information under Folders, which reflects my folder structure in Finder, does not reflect the information under Dates.
A related issue which I find confusing is that under Catalog Collections, All Images shows 156 images. But just below under Folders, In Catalog shows 113 images. What's the difference between All Images and In Catalog?
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,
First, there is indeed a problem about the numbering of images in the catalogue folders. A parent folder doesn't take into account the images stored in subfolders, but counts only those stored in the parent folder. This is a feature of Capture One, and many users have complained about that.
Second, "In catalogue" means that your images are stored together with the catalogue itself. This is referred to as "managed catalogue". Most of users store their images in a different location than the catalogue, i.e. the catalogue contains only the path to access the images, which are stored elsewhere, e.g. on an external drive. This is referred to as "referenced catalogue".
"All images" counts all your images : those in the catalogue and those which are in an other location. In your case, part of your images are presumably stored in the catalogue, and an other part outside.

I know many like to work in catalogues but I work in sessions.
It permits me to have faster and trouble free workflow, perfect
knowledge of where the files are and instant access to them.
Each his own! :)0
