Session upgrade (v12 to v13) fails

I have a session from 2011. When I tried to upgrade it to Capture One 20 (v13.1.3.9) a message box said that it had been created under12.0.1.35 Pro Mac. I clicked OK -- and nothing has happened. I have recopied the session from backup and tried several times, to the same result: a blank session screen. This is the second session I've had this problem with. (Many others have been converted with no problem.  The previous time I just re-imported the files from scratch, but I'd rather not do that this time; I want to keep data. Why is this not working, and what can I do about it?

    What are you expecting to happen?

    As with every other session (but one) that I have upgraded through multiple new versions of Capture One, I expect the files that are in the session to appear after upgrade without my having to re-import them. But the session window is completely blank.
