Brush tool problems

When using the brush tool a Red through to light pink tracing would follow as I moved the brush. Somehow I must have goofed up and now there is no red or pink trail I can s

barely see a "white" trail following . What did I do to screw this up?

  If you have the Mask set to be displayed you would expect to see a red mask area as you brush.

  It is possible to turn off the display of the mask. Then you would see only the effect of the settings being applied.

  The options are:

  Always display

  Never display

  Only display when drawing the mask

  Greyscale masking (but this should be very obvious as it is an entirely different display.)

   

  If the mask is set to NOT display the adjustments being brushed onto the image may also be strengthened or weakened directly by the setting of the Opacity for the layer.
