Sliders are Grey can’t adjust
-
Does the thumbnail have a little icon of a pencil with a line through it it the bottom right corner? That is the "can not edit" symbol. Possible reasons for can not edit are
- wrong color space (can't edit grayscale images, must be RGB)
- too small (image must be at least 512 pixels on the shortest side)
- jpeg editing is disabled in preferences and you are trying to edit a jpeg image
- tiff and png images also need to have editing enabled in preferences
Or it could be something else. Need more info.

I see this bug once in a great while. It has no consistent context. For me, it is not related to any of the issues Marco mentioned. I found that restarting C1 corrected this, but it is a brute force approach. Much easier to do, select any other tool tab, e.g., color, and then reselect the Exposure tool tab. Mirable dictu, this works for me to wake up the sliders.
If this doesn't work for you and none of Marco's reasons apply, it will require a support request.

Another cause of gray sliders is the focus is on a clone or heal layer. The target area(s) of clone and heal layers cannot be adjusted, so the adjustment sliders are grayed out. Change the focus by clicking on the Background or an adjustable layer and the adjustment sliders with become active.
