it looks as though the SX60 is not a supported camera.

What camera did you use with Capture One 10?

When i was unsing Capture One 10 i did NOT see the CR2 files also.

Yes your are right, the SX60 ist not in the list of suported cameras.

My other Cam (Canon 70D) also produces pictures in CR2 format. These are shown in Caputre One 10 and 21.

The pictures from both cameras are ".CR2". Why should there be a differnce? If i get a JPG from my Smartphone or are JPG form an other cam the file is coded as JPG.

That is why there are standardized formats such as JPG, GIF, PNG ... and also CR2

Am I completely wrong? I do not think so.

I'm sorry to say that you are wrong. Many Canon cameras use .CR2 file format, but a lot of things might be different inside the file structure depending on your camera model, and Capture One can only use the files for cameras that it has profiles for.

    Yep, you are.

    My 30D produced CR2 files.

    My 40D produced CR2 files.

    My 70D produced CR2 files.

    My 1D x produces CR2 files.

My 7D Mk II produces CR2 files.

But they're not "the same" files in any way, shape or form - they're effectively unique to the camera that produced them.

(Yes, I know that you can sometimes trick Raw software into processing a file from an unsupported camera by changing the Exif - that doesn't diminish the underlying point.)

This is pretty basic stuff, Guenther:

    https://photo.stackexchange.com/questions/100329/are-all-the-raw-files-the-same

But even among different cameras from the same manufacturer that use the same file extension, if they use different sensors then the applications that interpret the "raw" data must have information about how the "raw" data from that specific sensor should be processed. A .CR2 file from a Canon EOS 7D Mark II should not be processed by the same algorithms that a .CR2 file from a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV should. An .NEF from a Nikon D500 should not be processed the same as an .NEF from a Nikon D810. And so on.

Many thanks for the detailed information. Very nice from you!

My Canon SX60 is of course a bit older. It is a little unusual that Capture One (21) is not backward compatible with the older CR2 formats. One can’t change that. I probably spent the Eur 200 for the upgrade unnecessarily.
