"Import Images..." deletes catalog? C1E Fujifilm

I have about 50 images in my catalog. When I try to import a new image, it deletes everything and says there are 0 images in my catalog - not even the newly imported one! The only way to fix this is to Restore a catalog backup. If I switch it to import to recent images instead of selected album, the imported files will appear but all the others disappear and are inaccessible. I assume this is user error but cannot for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong or why on earth this would be the default behavior. I had this issue on both 15.2.1 and 15.3.0.
