Did it ever tether? Are you on Intel or M series chipset?

It tethered on my older iMac with Intel chip with no problems. After I updated Capture One on my iMac connection with camera got worse, it disconnected all the time, but it worked.

Now I have MacBook Pro with M1 chip and I tried to connect my camera for hours without a result. BUT i saw that camera connected 2 times, but dissconected again in few second. One time I was able to take 2 pictures and camera disapeared. Since then i can't connect my camera.

As I said, it works perfect with other Canon cameras, but not with 5D Mark IV

A clue of things that maybe a factor, USB on the M1 series is picky at best, better on the M1 Pro and M1 Max. The other issue is the USB bugs that exist in 12.4 and to some extent in 12.5 (beta) and while not camera related disconnects have been reported on drives and other USB devices, that need backwards compatibility.

If C1 wants to they can capture the data between the port and the software to see what the issue is, but my gut feeling is that it's a combination of the USB protocol in the camera and the backwards compatibility in the M1 system.

While I am not standing up for C1 it is possibly the computer and maybe the OS and not the C1 software.

    From the Release Note

Live View over USB can stall without the use of a repeater

Maybe a repeater can help you?

The quality and length of the cable are important factors, which is why tether tools cables are expensive.

Hi Tania, I'm having similar trouble - I've tried the Terminal command with the resulting message (

Successfully reset All approval status for com.captureone.captureone15

Harrys-MacBook-Pro-2:~ harryarcher$) but it still doesn't connect. I'm get busy message on the back of the camera still. What cables have you got to connect please?

    Harry.

Hi Harry. Have you tried to restart your computer? It didn’t work for me with terminal command before I restarted my computer.

    I use Tether Tools USB-C 3.0 - B Micro TetherPro

I also wrote terminsl command for capture one 21 (14 instead of 15) and it now works in both capture one 21 and 22

After many hours of I finally got there. I thought my cable wasn't good enough and after borrowing the correct tethertool cable from the flash centre (Leeds) with no joy I went over all the software. First I deleted Capture One 22 version and all related supported files in the library for a clean install of C1. It wasn't until I checked the firmware on my 5D-4 and updated it, that "hey presto" it worked. It also actually works on my original 15" Lindy cable with USB-C adapter attached. Don't you just love upgrading computers!!!!

Update: Okay, after testing the connection a few times over the past 24hrs my 5D-4 connection is very temperamental. C1 can't find the camera on first connection and the only way I get it to find the connection is if I open EOS Utility 3 and connect it the that application which sees it no problem. Then quit and relaunch C1 and it connects. Any disconnection to C1 results in the same process as C1 then can't see the camera. Has anyone got any possible answers please? H

Right then: I had both memory cards in the camera. The 128G SD card was half full and 16G CF empty. Removed the SD card and connection problem was solved. Reformatted SD card and inserted back into camera and it connects okay. I suppose if I get connection problems in the future the cards will be a thing the check over then! Or maybe just remove the cards but I have always shot tethered with a card in the camera as well - just incase a bad connection will then possibly write the image to the card. Anyway - seems to work now!

Hi again, the author of the post here.

My problem WAS solved, and it worked FEW times, but that's it. It still doesn't work. I'm going crazy, unbeliveable. How am I supposed to work? How is it possible that camera connnects few times and then dissapear forever?

P.s. I updated Capture One to the latest version with hope that they fixed it.... but NO! Amazing!

Hello, I was having the same issues. I could not get my Canon 5d Mark IV to connect to my Capture One 22 software on my MacBook Pro 2021 laptop, on system macOS Monterey 12.5.1, with Apple M1 Max.

My R6 and older 5d mark II connected right up.

I tried various USB-C to USB 3 adapters and even bought the direct tether tools USB-C to Canon 5d cord, nothing worked. I have not updated my Canon 5D mark IV software in years.

I have an older OWC Thunderbolt 2 Dock. I used it with my older laptops. It's large with many ports ( USB 3, thunder 2, firewire 800 ). I connected the Dock/Hub to the computer by using a Thunderbolt 2 cord plugged into the Dock, connecting the opposite side of that cord to the computer with a Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. I then plugged the Canon 5d mark IV cord directly into the Dock/hub USB-3 port, and low and behold it came right up! Even with a short firewire connected to 15' repeater cord.

I could not get the camera to mount with smaller travel docks, just this larger one. The company OWC now has the new version Thunderbolt 4 which I imagine will work as well, and supply the needed USB-c ports anyways.

The camera works via the dock, not directly into the laptop. I don't know why, but Hallelujah!

    God bless

I'm having the same problem as the folks above. Updated my Firmware on the Mark IV and did the terminal reset. I use tether pro cables. The camera attached to capture one for 2 photos. Then when I moved the camera and the cord became loose I lost the connection and can't get it going again after restarting, terminal reset, following all previous resets.

I don't have a big hub like Christopher. Any other work arounds?

    Thank you,

    Natalja

    Natalja,

If the camera detached from movement from your firewire, I would suggest using a Tetherblock attached to the bottom of the camera so there is no movement in the cameras port. www.tetherblock.com There $90 at B&H.

When you input the firewire into your camera body, if the port has movement you'll always lose connection. I highly recommend a tether block for all cameras so you never have to send your camera to canon to have the port replaced.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Hello Christopher,

Thank you. I will order that adaptor. I appreciate your response and suggestion.

The only problem is when I move to different sets I'll need to unplug the camera and I noticed the only thing that worked was to do the Terminal reset and a restart of the computer. While this is fine if I'm working alone in the studio it's not going to work when clients are on set and time is of essence.

Do you know if Capture One is looking to fix the glitch?

    Thank you

I updated my MacBook to macOS Ventura, but it didn't help. So I have really tried everything and nothing works
