Capture One 22 does not work with the new installation of Ventura. What do we do??

I have exactly the same issue, having just upgraded to Ventura. I would expect a version 22 release to support the latest OSX, 13.0, very soon since software developers have early access for exactly this kind of situation. Please advise on the timeframe.

Hm, based on the screen shot you are not using the latest version of CaptureOne.

What happens if you update to the latest version (15.4.1)?

If you'd searched the forum, you'd have saved yourself all the angst - this solution has been shared umpteen times, for a week or so.

I solved the above issue, disactivating my Capture One 22 and downloading it again.

If you have the subscription, you just go to the page with the current version: https://www.captureone.com/en/account/download then follow steps for install.  If you purchased a perpetual license, I would assume you can do the same if it is in the same version, or if you have an older version you would need to pay for upgrade

How is it possible that capture one asks for more money for capture one to work when the computer OS is updated.. That is really insane. I understand that if I would want a new version of capture one I need to pay, but to have a software I paid a lot just a few months ago to ask for more money just because of an OS update seems like a robbery to me.

    Capture one.. FIX THIS NOW!

We don't yet know whether Capture One will release an update to Capture One 22 that will support Ventura, or whether it will require an upgrade to Capture One 23 (or, at least, I don't know the answer to that question).

We get this every year. Why do users find it sensible to upgrade MacOS only days after a new version comes out without checking first whether software they rely on will work with it? The release notes for Capture One are perfectly clear as to what versions of Windows and of MacOS are supported.

Do you have a (reliable) source for that claim? The announcement of Capture One v23, does not exclude a maintenance release for CO v22. E.g., last year CO v21 got a maintenance release to officially support Monterey.

Otherwise, here in the forum are several reports that the latest version of Capture One v22 works under Ventura? Did you even try to (re)install the latest version?

Oh, I almost forgot to mention it: There is nobody else to blame than yourself.

In the release notes for each version, Capture One describes the requirements and the supported OS versions. If you change your OS Version to an unsupported version and you do not know for sure that your (business) critical/important SW is working, it is

    • on your own risk
    • likely to end in a desaster

If you want to recover from the situation, I'd see two possibilities:

    1. Downgrade your system with the help of a Backup (Timemachine?).
    2. Download the latest version of Capture One, install it and try again. If you then still face problems, maybe you can raise a support ticket to help Capture One to fix the problem, which then could result in a new maintenance release

No problem. Capture One offers a subscription model so we have the option of adopting the Adobe update payment model rather than the perpetual license model if we prefer that method of funding.

As for the Support of new versions of OS's - there are two major considerations.

FIrstly: will the released version of the OS result in breaking software that currently uses some older technology? If there is no problem running older versions of the software then there is no problem for the user using older versions and avoiding an enforced application update to go with the new OS.

Which way that turns out after a new OS final release may not be entirely evident for a few weeks. It also involves discovering whether all older hardware and connected devices are also still usable.

Secondly: If the new OS has new features and functionality (i.e. new code) that both users and supplier want to make use of then the software application developer is forced to deploy resources and incur costs to change or add to their own code. The same can be said for new cameras and, to some extent, new lenses. Both of those may introduce new technology or techniques that cannot successfully be accommodated into older software without changes.

The bigger players have funded this in various ways in the past but a Subscription model seems to be taking over for the most dominant in the marketplace.

Apple seem to be doing things differently and funding through hardware sales with OS support for older hardware eventually constrained and forcing the upgrade issue. It's the same for Windows but being a more open to the third party markets product the timescale for the enforced HW change is usually a little longer.

Things were so much simpler decades ago when many image quality upgrades were dependent on more acceptable terms since a different film or film processing chemicals  - so consumables that one expected to pay for anyway. Almost no cost to upgrade back then ...  depending on how you looked at things.

How did you deactivate Capture One 22?  I also have Venture and any version of Capture one WILL NOT EVEN LOAD, much less enable deactivation?  Just wondring.

Not surprised. Capture One is a joke. How many times per year do we all have to go through this (and other) nonsense.
