Improve speed of C1 preview display on monitor

I have an Intel Macbook Pro (2019 vintage) with 32 GB memory and notice that often the display of the photos on the screen can be very slow. However, sometimes scrolling through photos shows a fast performance. My previews have the recommended large setting (5120 px).   Is there a way to improve the speed of the displays? Does this perhaps depend on the available memory, i.e. the speed of CO could be impacted by other active programs on the Mac?
