Yes, you can turn on the clipping warning, its a triangular button top right or you can use the shortcut cmnd E.Its settings can be configured in the preferences.

The crop tool was broken in 8.2 on Mac's with retina displays. 8.2.1 fixes it. Not sure if that is your problem but you may want to check you are on the latest version if you are on a Retina Mac.

No you can't. The Color Editor is the closest thing you'll have.I'm a recent convert from Lightroom too.

Just copy the catalog to the external drive and then double click on it to open it.It doesn't matter if you are using referenced or internal master files.
