Cannot restore minimized window

That would usually be because Windows sees a pop up window from an application that demands a response but for some reason is not showing as the top window on the screen. Do you have any other windows open?

Does it happen every time you minimise C1 or only in some situations?

What were you doing before you minimised C1? What were you doing before you tried to maximise C1?

    Hi Grant,
    Thanks for your reply.

The simplest procedure I can evoke the issue reproducibly is:
    1. After the Windows has started (no other applications are running), I click on the CO desktop shortcut.
    2. The CO maximized window appears, I click " the 'Minimize' symbol in the top right corner.
    3. I click the minimized CO button at the taskbar and the beep sounds and nothing else is happening.

If more applications are running, I can switch between them by clicking taskbar, including CO. However, if the CO is explicitly minimized the problem also occurs.

Maybe it is important that another workaround, besides pressing Enter, is to move the mouse cursor over the CO minimized button, wait until the reduced CO window appears and then from right-click menu select Restore. No pop-up window seems involved.
Other applications can be restored without any problem, i.e. window appears immediately after clicking the taskbar button.

When you first start C1 there is a "splash" screen that may suggest looking at helpful videos or something (it can be turned off) or today I see an "Upgrade" screen (running v9) suggesting updating to V11.

Are you minimising the main screen after you have seen the splash screen or before?

Does everything work if you do NOT minimise C1?

I am minimizing the main window well after the splash screen. Moreover, the issue also appears when the window is minimized again later on.

    Yes, everything else seems OK.

    Strange.

Do you have a dual screen set up?

Once, a long time ago and with other software, I came across a situation where the minimised window or expanded window, I cannot recall which, had somehow been set to positional data which put it off screen with a pixel width of 1 in the bottom left corner of the screen. In effect that made it invisible but it was still active. Much the same symptoms - could not see it but it was considered to be at its expanded (not full screen) position. That one took some time to spot.

It's difficult to suggest anything that is not incredibly vague ...

I can't reproduce the OP's issue, but if I switch quickly by clicking the taskbar icon I get the window to unsnap/de-maximise... could be related behaviour?

    Windows 10 here.

    Hurray! Found something.

There certainly is a window bug in there. I can't unsnap the window by dragging the title bar.

I've found one more feature of this issue. I had to uninstall Kaspersky (KIS 2018) antivirus for some other (probably unrelated) issue and ran Windows Defender for some days. With Defender, I also heard beeps but a double-click was enough to restore the CO window. Now I've reinstalled Kaspersky and the double-click does not work - I have to press Enter as before. So, there is some relation to antivirus SW but why...?

    Thanks all for their comments.

just to add that i'm having the same trouble.. when minimized CO11 beeps when attempting to restore the window, cant switch to the application either. enter key restores after beep. new dell windows 10 system.. hoping this gets fixed soon.

CO11 also became completely invisible when stoping a slide show..CO11 not listed in task manager apps (background tasks only) and when trying to launch the app again the 'another instance of capture one is already running' message appears.

I'm having exactly the same problem in that if I minimise Capture One Pro11 to the task bar I can then hover the mouse of the minimised Capture One and a small window appears showing Capture One but I can't get it back to being full screen again; I have to click on the red cross in the corner of the small version of Capture One to close it and then open it again.

A very weird behaviour I've never seen anywhere before.

Has anyone solved this problem as it's still affecting me?

    Richard,

Once or twice over the years using other software I have come across a similar situation.

More common is the application that throws up a window demanding a response before it will continue bit for some reason the window is not displayed on top of any other open windows but behind them and never comes to the fore. Some time I suspect that the saved size and screen position setting for the Window to be presented have resulted in making it either very tiny (a few pixels) or off the screen.

I have seen both results occur randomly and not just for applications demanding interactive answers.

One application, going back some years, managed to make a minimised window that when re-instated to its non-full screen size was 1 pixel wide on the left hand edge of the screen. It did it regularly because the "previous size" to which is was being restored was no full screen and the registry setting had been corrupted. In that example I happened to spot a blinking pixel in the lower left corner of the screen one day and managed to grab it and expand the window to a more useful dimension.

In a similar example with a different application the horizontal dimension for the window to be restored had somehow been given a negative value. This resulted in it being restored but off to the left of the left screen edge and so once again it was invisible this was a long time ago before Windows had the sort of "sophisticated" screen settings for different drivers and multi-screen set ups that we see today. I stumbled across the reason one day - I forget how or why - and fixed the problem by changing the registry entry. No doubt there was another way to get the screen to behave without editing the registry but as I was there and the entry was open I figured I might as well change it to see whet would happen.

If you sometimes use a multi-screen set up you might want to consider whether something has been set to restore the minimized window in question to re-appear on a different part of the screen "real estate" to the area your main screen is presenting to you. That would basically be the same sort of problem as my second example.

Even if your problem turns out to have a difference cause it would be good to eliminate the possibilities mentioned above.

    HTH.

You can try using <Alt> + <Tab> to cycle between open applications. If there's a "hidden" dialog waiting for a response, it will show next to the main CO window and you can select it - but I think this may need Windows 10.
I've had this before on CO and with other software.

I've tried that, it brings the Capture One window up but as soon as I release it goes back to the task bar.

    Thanks... 😊

Same problem here. Just purchased C1 and use it on two computers of different make, both Windows 10. No hidden dialog waiting for a response, afaik not a "one pixel" issue, only way to revive the C1 window is by the pressing Enter method. I use Kaspersky on both computers, though -- haven't tried uninstalling it.

Phase One are aware of this problem so hopefully there'll be a fix in the next update.

This happens to me too, but I've found that I can get it back by mousing over the taskbar to get the 'little' window image, then clicking on that image.

Anyone else who has this issue?

I've seen it in v.11 — though this is perhaps a bit more severe. I reported the problem to Tech Support. It's been a few weeks, but as I recall I encountered it after launching a slide show within Capture One and then clicking the controls for adjusting the slide show.

After some sequence of clicks (I can't remember what they were at the moment), the entire UI disappeared. There was no error message. The program's name did not appear even in Task Manager! Capture One had fully retreated into the background "somewhere" and I could not figure out how to get it back. Finally I just had to reboot the computer. That of course was in effect force-quitting Capture One and is not a good thing to do. Some day I will do that and I'll end up with a corrupted Session I cannot recover! I reported the repro steps as best I could, and I hope Tech Support can replicate them.

Needless to say, I've stopped using the slide-show feature for now (the problem happened repeatedly when I used it). For the time being if I want a slide show I'll use IrfanView.
