The jury is still out...
Well, so far, so good. At least it didn't crash upon opening, but since Beta2 never lasted more than 3 days without crashing I'll not celebrate quite yet!
The Good:
1. Disable Sharpening upon opening is back - Thank you, thank you, thank you.
2. The Quick Selection panel is better - it does accept D2X profile now at least, but there's still a bunch of free space at the bottom of the panel - why didn't you stick Levels or Curves down there?
3. You switched location of White Balance and Exposure buttons - minor, but nice.
4. Arrow keys adjustment now work correctly
5. You can change names of the files by clicking on the filename in the thumbnail again - GOOD!
The Bad:
1. If you're going to take up the entire right side of the screen with a panel, fill the ... panel up with usable features!!! In the Exposure panel, the Levels graph is so small as to be almost unusable. It could EASILY be 3/4" higher and still have excess space on the panel. Better yet, how about user configurable panels?!?
2. Why did I have to find out CO4 was out by visiting the site. Might have been nice if you had at least emailed us!
3. Preference settings remain a total joke. What, do you guys have a Preference Tax in Europe or something? A third grader with an imagination deficit could come up with more preference settings. FOUR preference settings is all you could think of?
4. Shortcuts are pitiful. To move the browser in 3.7 you hit f8, now I have to use Ctrl+Shft+B. This is progress? There are 12 function keys - put them to work! Allow me to use my few remaining brain cells to concentrate on editing, not remembering some convoluted, ridiculous 3 step "shortcut".
5. A big step backwards in applying batch adjustments. Go back to 3.7.7 version. Again, progress? Progress means to make things easier/better.
Oh well, like I said, at least it didn't crash on start-up. That's pretty sad when that's you're first reaction to the new program you've been waiting on for so long. We'll see how it does after a few days, but not overly excited at all so far. Phase One's disregard for customer satisfaction is just another example of their overall arrogant view that "they" know what we need and want more than we do (makes you wonder if they're related to Adobe!). I hope the next "beta" testing is with senior management replacement personnel. It's a real shame to see a company with such potential go the way of the dinosaur.

You know who I miss (the one guy who made dealing with Phase One a little less bitter tasting)? Michael Tapes. Things were already taking a nose dive when he was there (I suspect that's why he ended his relationship with Phase One) but after he left... uggh! It's also too bad that Adobe bought Pixmantec otherwise I guarantee you that I'd be using RAW Shooter right now.
To be fair though, I feel that none of the other competitors have anything better to offer. I don't care for the color in Lightroom/ACR, I like the color in DPP but the user interface leaves a lot to be desired, and Bibble... I can't get Bibble to run longer than 2 minutes without crashing (I don't think it plays well with XP x64). I'm almost frustrated enough to switch to Nikon/Fuji and start shooting JPEG.

Your're right Joe about no other company having a better offering. I've tried the trial version of many RAW converters, only to remain faithful to C1. C1's end result (conversion) is the best on the market IMO; however, their management style makes it so unpleasant to deal with them that's it's almost not worth it. I don't use the term arrogrant lightly. Phase One (along with Adobe and Microsoft) gives new meaning to the term arrogant. The only difference is that MS and Adobe are big enought to get away with that arrogance, Phase One isn't. I fear it will catch up with them one day, and then we'll be forced to accept an inferior product based not on healthy competition, but due to corporate suicide on Phase One's part.
Trust me, as soon as an equal performing product is available (and they're getting closer and closer all the time), I'll drop C1 in a flash, strictly because of their attitude and blatant disregard for the people who purchase their product.0 -

Agreed, all it will take for me is for someone else to offer keyboard controls for exposure, contrast, white balance and tone (if Bibble was stable that would be an option) and I'll drop C1 like a hot potato.
Cheers, Joe0
