Just to add to the comments by JuF, if there are 7TB of photos, it's possible that Capture One would struggle to run well with all that in a single catalog.

Thank you for the replies. I have been working/trying a couple things to find what works best.

I will split the catalog up between "personal" and "business" photos to keep the main catalog a. little smaller.

One suggestion I have for anyone else that reads this post, what I found works good for me is the following:

(This is based on using a MAC)
I have an external SSD drive, 2TB, connected tot he laptop. I have the main catalog located on that drive, while all the photos main storage is on my NAS. I also keep my sessions on that drive, and they are moved to my NAS once I am finished (also ready for off-site backup). By placing the catalog file on my SSD that is attached to my laptop, and reading the files from the NAS, makes the import and access part a lot faster. I tried to use my NAS for the catalog, however, that made things pretty slow. Ideally this would be a lot better if I had the ability to add and keep all the files on an internal HD, but that is a limitation with Apple. (Will Capture One be made available for Linux?)

In sort, Capture One Catalog created on the USB SSD attached to my laptop. All files imported tot he catalog exist on my NAS. Working sessions located on my SSD, then when finished, moved to my NAS and that is when I add them to the main Catalog.

So far this is working for me so I thought I would share in the event it helps others.
