Let's say the session on the desktop is called SmithDT.cosesssiondb, and the session on the laptop is called SmithLT.cosessiondb.

You seem already to have a method of transferring your work from laptop to desktop. You might (1) do it over your network (that's what I usually do) or you might (2) copy the LT session onto a removable drive of some kind and then plug that in to the desktop.

Using method (1) I make sure my desktop can see my laptop on my network. Then on the desktop, I open the SmithDT session. In the System Folders section of the library tool, navigate to the SmithLT folder on the laptop where the images are, and drag and drop them to the desired folder in the desktop session (Capture, Selects, Output, etc.) BUT - VERY IMPORTANT - do this inside Capture One, NOT in your operating system (Finder or Windows Explorer as the case may be). This is essential for Capture One to bring in with the images any adjustments you have already made on the laptop.

Using method (2), copy the LT session onto the removable drive, then transfer that to the desktop. Then as in (1) above navigate to the folders on the removable drive and drag and drop as before.

Or (3) you could use the Import command, navigate to the required existing file location (as in (1) and (2) above) and make sure you check the box to include existing adjustments.

Do you already work with a "Self Contained" session?

It sounds like you do if you can easily move the entire session to another machine and continue to work with it.

I think Ian3 has covered the usual approach although things like file naming conventions and so on may need to be considered for true continuity through the workflow.

One further option is to copy the "capture" folder(s) over (i.e. the folders with the original captured imaged AND the "Captureone" sub-folder with its sub-folders and make the newly copied originals folder(s) Favourites in the Desk Top session.

This assumes that you will want to manage the 2 shoots as one session for archival purposes and so having the folders copied to the Desktop session folders makes this simple to achieve.

(Note: Technically the session can be pointed at folders anywhere on a net work or external disk and the folders don't have to be "Favourites" be be able to edit the contents. BUT for easier management and archival of the resulting combined session putting the folders and the existing edits into the Desk Top session makes life a lot easier.)

Having separate names for the folders from the second session rather than putting the images into a first session folder may also be useful but that is entirely your choice.

If you use the Selects, Output and Trash folders you may want to give those some thought too in terms of the transfer. Still an easy job though.
