Desaturating shadows or highlights
Hello!

Quick question - is there a way to adjust the saturation of shadows or highlights easily? I can't find a way to do that - saturation applies to the whole image.
Thanks!

Not really. I assume that would require luminosity masking which currently Capture One does not support. Of course you can reduce saturation on parts of an image if you draw the mask yourself, but I suspect that is not what you are asking for.

There is some potential, IMO, for using the Advanced Colour Editor to pick the darker and lighter colours (more difficult with the lighter ones of course since they are already less then saturated in many cases across a fairly wide range) and then use those selection to create a layered mask. Or several layers with masks if that offers better control for the purpose.
Likewise the Colour editor permits one to make several colour selections and desaturate using a number of additional controls to limit or extend the colour range selected. As part of that you can force it to include all colours and chose level of lightness or darkness of those colours that are of interest.
However I would not necessarily say it is simple.
The basics are pretty simple but getting the results one seeks can be a a bit of a learning experience - especially if it's not something one is likely to do regularly.
One the other hand the Colour editor and associated tools offer the potential for very powerful control of the end result and if you find some values that are particularly appealing and like to be re-used often one can always save the settings as a style or, perhaps, just a pre-set.
HTH.
