Problems Running C1 4
Dear List,
PC XP SP2 lots of ram_and_processors-etc-etc
PO4 4.8.2
Bridge CS4 3.0.0.464
OK. I have downloaded the latest version of CO4 and have installed it and activated it successfully. However, I have a couple of problems.
1/ To install any software on works computers, the user has to be logged on as an Administrator. This I can do as I have special dispensation to do this on my PC's to to ongoing software updates etc (such as CO3/4 and PS CS4 etc)
2/ To run applications I have to log on as a normal user.
3/ CO4 opens fine - however I cannot navigate to any folders on my HDDs containing my RAW files - I get a constant "loading" sign. (when logged on as normal user)
4/ If I "run as Administrator" CO4 will navigate to the folders on my HDD fine. However, it is forbidden to run programs as "administrator" here and if I do they will suspend my account. If I do process RAW files when logged on as Administrator, I cannot work on these files or append any metadata (PS CS4, Bridge CS4, Nikon ViewNX etc) as the properties of these files are set to Administrator priviledges only
Any ideas?
Thanks
Nic

The permissions problem you encounter while working as a normal (i.e. non-administrative) user is a result of how your computer is setup. It is not CO4 related. Since WinXP SP1 file permissions on (NTFS-formatted) hard disks are more restrictive, both on internal and external disks.
You can resolve this by either changing the permissions for normal users to Change from the drives root level (permissions are inherited down the folder path). You need administrative permissions to change the permissions.
Another approach, which is to be preferred and in line with what Microsoft had in mind, is to use your folders which are part of your user's profile (i.e. My Documents, My Pictures). You can move the default path (C:\....) to another drive and path. Windows will automatically assign the proper permissions within the new folder structure. You can do this as the logged on (normal) user.
In case this sounds complicated (because it is), consult your administrator.
Note: a proper Win32 app should be installed with admin permissions only and be able to run as normal user, as does CO4.0
