Exporting to same folder / automatic adding to catalog?
Hi,
I have been a Lightroom user for few years but I am now looking for alternatives. After couple of days of using the C1 Pro 7 demo, I have noticed one big difference which affects my workflow (makes it much more complicated):
I use Lightroom as a photo archive and partially for image editing. When editing e.g. NEF file, usually I
1. make "rough settings" in LR
2. then export a TIF file into Photoshop (or standalone plugin), edit and save the file.
3. After doing this, the fixed TIF image appears automatically in LR next to the original NEF file. In the same folder as the original file.
In C1, I can do the exporting and open the TIF file in external editor, but I guess the rest is missing? I cannot see a option that the exported image would be automatically imported to C1 catalog and added to the "same folder as original file".
Am I missing something? This seems to be the only thing what I am missing so far, but it affect my workflow a lot...

No - you aren't missing anything. This is not functionality of C1.
The reality is that there are certain benefits to using Adobe from start to finish with your workflow, and that kind of integration is one of those benefits.
To be honest (and to be clear I am not a PhaseOne employee) the cataloging functionality built in to C1 is still in its infancy. The application isn't designed as an asset management tool.
That said - I much prefer C1 for my RAW processing but I do use LR for asset management.
Personally I have two different workflows depending on the kind of shoot.
Events: Ingest cards & perform initial rating/cull using Photo Mechanic (because it's crazy fast) -> Import to C1 for RAW processing -> Export processed files as PSD/TIF -> Edit in Photoshop -> Import in to LR for cataloging.
Non-Events: Tethered capture to C1 -> RAW adjustments -> Export processed files as PSD/TIF -> Edit in Photoshop -> Import in to LR for cataloging.
It's a few more steps than I'd like to be taking but I'm quite efficient at it, and to me it's worth an extra step for the superior raw processing I get from C1.
Hope that's useful info!0 -
