How do you all create custom camera profiles?

I have been using X-Rite Color Checker and iProfiler to make custom camera profiles. These are mostly for reproducing artwork were color accuracy is critical. Apparently C1 cant used dng profiles. I really don't want to have to purchase new hardware and software but I will if that's the only way. It seems like there should be someway to use my target to create an icc profile instead of dng.

  Found this that will allow me to use the target and software I have but still would like to see what others use and get an opinion.
