Help and old RSP User please! (Now C1 5 Pro)
OK - so I have recently purchased C1 5 Pro (and just the other night upgraded to latest 5.1 version).
Coming form Pixmantec Raw Shooter (Premium) ... I am used to a really FAST and SIMPLE raw converter. Although I can see C1 is superb in terms of results, and makes more sense to me than the uber annnoying Lightroom ... I have not yet used the software in anger AT ALL 😭
I need to know what I am doing and WHY I need to cover a basic workflow, set default tone cirves and slider settings etc. Name them and save them. (Far more than I envisaged) I am no where even at that stage yet. I need to get everything how I like and WHERE I like. Crucially to understand - not just to 'do'.
I'm not stupid (and I know there is a lot to take in all at once here) ... but I am left an bit 'cold' at the moment. Even getting off the blocks is stopping me suing this software right now !
What I LOVED about RSE and later RSP ... was just how ludicrously fast and simple it was to use. Easy to know that EVERYTHING ... EVERYTHING !! stayed in the same HDD, Partition, Folder that my original RAW files were stored. The only files additionally were a bunch of.THM files (aka sidecar files I believe). All these .THM files stayed in a folder I could drag with the main RAW images, Converted Images etc (if I ever stored them all on an additional backup or changed physical HDD location. SO SIMPLES !
NOW; Everything is seeming hideously over complicated + where I was able to open up RSP in seconds, do loads of (X,C,V type) cut and pasting of adjustments to similar RAW files in a sequence, batch them, and close and OUT .... Now there seems to be loads of jargon to get my head around + I still od not really understand WHY I am needed to work in this way + what the benefits are.
All this sessions business, recipes etc etc ..... where do the edited files go to and/or sidecar adjustment data ? Why are the extra files generated so bloody massive ? Loads of other things !! ....
Just when I am rid of Lightroom (although never really used it much from 1.0 thru 1.4) ... a lot of C1 5 Pro seems to be stopping me from starting , so to speak. Less annoying than Lightroom - yes .... simple and SUPER INTUATIVE like RSP .... errr NO !!
So please - anyone that can help me with all the new terminology and methodology ?
Anyone helping would be great ... but EX RAW SHOOTER USERS will undoubtedly recognise all my new frustrations!
(I am sure once I have got the basics to sink in ... I will be flying. I am not a person that learns a new RAW (or other) workflow parrot style ... I must find out too WHY and WHAT things do. WHERE my files or adjustments are safely stored. WHAT areas to back up etc etc.
Thanks guys !! 😊

First, welcome to the forum and to the world of Capture One users. I understand CO5 is for you quite a different animal but once you get used to it...
I have a few tips:
First, forget what you know about your previous raw processor, it will only stay in the way to learn a few new tricks.
Next, the amount of tools in CO 5 Pro might be overwhelming at first sight, so I suggest you limit yourself to the Library and Quick tool tab after you setup the process recipe on the Output tool tab the first time. Because you run the Pro version, go to Window menu, Workspace, Simplified. This limits the interface to the main tools. Great way to start!
To continue, the welcome splash screen of CO 5.1 shows a link to online video tutorials. Every second you spend there will save you hours, no days, later.
Post your questions here as often as you like, but best to keep it short and clear, one topic at a time. That works best in user forums. Provide version of CO and Windows in a post for reference.
Enjoy CO5!0
