Import Question
Is there any way to import RAW files (collections) from a hard drive without having to copy everything to a completely new folder? That is, work with THUMBNAILS of previously existing folder that would require me to locate said folder to do any processing? I'd like to browse collections from laptop, create metadata stamping (with thumbnails) and define other batch processing needs without having to make copies of RAW files first. I have my own backups, no need to take up space for a third.
Thanks, Mike

In CO4 you can open any folder with raw files on internal or external hard drive from the Library tool. Previews and thumbnails will be generated if necessary.
I did re-read your post several times and I am not sure if I understand it correctly. Is it that you like to work with images like making adjustments without the raw files being on the disk? I don't think that works for CO4.0 -
I just don't want to generate a duplicate set of my RAW files . I have them at a central location (with backups offsite) and am confused when I have to specify a NEW folder to copy selected RAW images before I can process/view anything. I want to browse my overall collections (from said centrally located image files) and selectively process images from these locations. And not copy every RAW file first in a redundant move to a new folder/drive/computer. A little confusing I know. 0 -

I do not see any reason why you should import and therefore copy the raw files instead of opening them from your original location. Skip/neglect the import function, I think that is confusing you. Just open the folder with files from the Library tool.0 -
Will try. Thanks! M 0
