sliders not working on Trial version

Quite sometime ago I tried the trial version of whatever was the latest version of Capture One, today I downloaded the Capture One 5 trial version and the sliders for the adjustments are dark and don't work. I can make use of the Styles, but all other adjustments not working. The first time I downloaded to an external hard drive, then thinking that was the problem I repeated download in C drive, still does not work.Am I doing something wrong? I have Windows Vista, the files work, I can view what ever images I want to.

  A few potential causes:
  - you started the trial the and decided not to use the regular or Pro for 30 days (or this has expired) but entered the digital backs (a.k.a. DB mode) license mode; DSLR files can be opened and viewed but editing is not possible; check in Help, About to see what mode you are running.
  - you have a not supported file format (preview does not show as well) or your file is read-only (eye symbol in thumbnail)
  - you have opened a folder with images but not yet selected one thumbnail to show in the viewer
