BACKING UP A CATALOGUE

I am new to Capture One, I have V9.2 and would appreciate any advice regarding the process of backing up my User Collection Catalogue.
I am aware it is a backup of the smart previews, what I don't know is:
Is each backup, an incremental backup of the previous one, OR, is each backup a stand alone?
The reason for my question is I have at present approx 50,000 images and a list of backups, which are becoming both extensive and large.
Is it possible to delete earlier backups,OR,is each subsequent backup, dependent upon the previous one?

  I asked the same questions a while ago, see
  
  The answers are that the backups are stand alone and it is OK to delete the earlier ones.
