What are you trying to achieve? Do you try to make a connection with EOS Utility to your Canon 40D? Have you checked your camera's communication settings?

I am trying to shoot tethered to C1 but cannot. I read in the forums to open the EOS utility in the background but still can not C1 to no avail. What comm settings should I be looking at?

    Thanks!

In your camera's menu there is a setting Communication which can be set to either PTP or PC. Set to PC. Exact wording may differ, but you can look that up in the manual.
Next, connect your camera to the computer, no applications started (like EOS Utility or CO). Let's see if any application starts. If it does, disable this function in Image Capture, Preferences because if another application connects to your camera, it is blocked for the next.
Next, start EOS Utility only. Select Camera settings/Remote shooting. It is good to update EOS Utility to the latest version (download from Canon site). I use 2.3.0. Try to apply a setting to the camera (your name) and release the shutter, set aperture and so on. Use your camera's software manual for details.

Let us know if you can get up to this point, whether or not successfully.

    Hi Paul,
the 40D does not have a Communication setting with these selections unless your using the Wireless transmitter.
I disabled the apps. that open upon camera connection. Updated the EOS Utility and every thing here flows smoothly.

Thanks for the feedback. Will remember that the 40D is configured more easy re. communication.

That is correct. Capture One 3.7.8 does not support tethered operation to the 40D (see the release notes of 3.7.8). I assumed you knew that and used the workaround with EOS Utility. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

I had heard blurbs but wasn't a 100% sure I can't believe everything on the internet

Thanks goodness that I have the demo only. It is slightly frustrating since all the people I work with use c1 software. My local dealer has shown me a "demo" but not enough to make the purchase, It looks like I'll save my money.

    Thanks!
