File naming issues with Canon cameras

First, wanted to thank you for this forum! It is a great way to help with day to day problems.
Let me give you some background info first: We use Canon cameras (20D, 5D, 1DS Mark II). We typically shoot tethered, and we have been using Phase One for quite some time without any problem (Version 3.6). Now, after installing Version 3.7.3, I am having problems with maintaing our file naming structure.
Let me begin by saying, it is absolutely critical for me to have unique filenames within the studio for cataloging and archiving purposes. We have multiple cameras and computers. With Phase One Version 3.6, we would open the Canon software and designate a capture folder. After that, we would connect to the camera. Then, we would open Phase One, select the capture folder in the tree, and then start to shoot. The filenaming was already configured through the Canon capture software. For example, a filename would look like 02_AAA3456.cr2. The part \"02_AAA\" was set in the software, and the \"3456\" was a CONTINUOUS number given by the Canon Capture software. What is important, is that the Canon software AUTOMATICALLY remembers your last shooting number, and then continues from there. And it does this regardless of switching from folder to folder. And even if there was a computer crash, etc.. and you need to reset the number, YOU CAN DO THIS. You can do it with any digits, not just 0000. For us, Phase One is a fantastic tool, but we used it only for viewing and processing, not the filenaming.
My problem with the 3.7.3 Version, is that it continuously tries to connect to the Camera!! As soon as it tries to connect, it interferes with the Canon capture software. If you keep shooting, the files end up in the root Capture folder within Phase One. And when Phase One connects to the camera, it disables the Canon filenaming structure. It starts using Phase One's naming structure. If you choose to cancel the connection to the camera, it will re-attempt to connect again and again after a few minutes. This means having to turn on and off the Canon capture every time. So first question:
1) Is there any way to stop Phase One Versio 3.7.3 from Automatically connecting to a Canon camera when tethered? We didn't experience this with Version 3.6.
I have tried to just maintain my filenaming structure through Phase One, but it doesn't seem possible. Each day, we have different jobs with different clients. Each job has a folder which looks like this:
2006-04-12_Peter_IKEA_lamps
Throughout each of the different job folders, I want to have continuous filenames. Using Sessions in Phase One, I end up getting my job name in the filename. I don't want this. I have tried making a Session within the job folder, and named this \"02_AAA.\" I then set the filenaming to have four digits. This then gives me a filename of \"02_AAA0000.cr2.\" BUT, the problem is, when I have my next job and create a Session folder, the Phase One counter starts over again at \"0000.\" I cannot have this! I need unique filenames for every file. So my second question is:
2) If I cannot disable the automatic connection from Phase One to the Canon camera, how is it possible to have an ON-GOING CONTINUOUS number generated from Phase One regardless of switching between different Sessions??
I hope that I have been clear enough in this post with the details you need. Basically, at the end of the day, what I NEED is a continuous numbering system which Phase One remembers. I also need that to be modifiable if there is a computer crash. Right now, it seems that I have to start over at 0000 if there is some sort of problem. If my last filename number shot is 0539, then I would want to configure Phase One to start at 0540. Just for your info, the \"02\" at the beginning of our filename designates which computer it was shot on. The \"AAA\" is meant to give huge amounts of filenaming possibilities. What I mean is, when we get to \"02_AAA9999.cr2\" then the next filename would be \"02_AAB0000.cr2.\" Yes, I know this has to be done manually, but that is fine.

I also am having a problem with file numbering in C1 3.7.3. There is a known problem with checking the box in preferences that says \"use camera counter\" this was supposed to be taken care of in ver 3.7.4 but the problem is still there in the beta release 3.7.4 rc1 and I have been told by support after opening a support case that the problem will probably not be fixed until ver 4.0.
I noticed that you open the canon software first then open C1. I had'nt thought of doing this in ver 3.6 but it is to late now cuz I have upgraded to the newer versions. I also need the camera counter to follow the camera image numbers because I like you work in \"session\" folders and I cant use the image numbers starting over in each session.
The only recourse is to delete 3.7.3 from your pc and reload 3.6 but then you will have to activate the software again. You may have noticed all the post's about reactivation on this forum....it can become a problem. I think the camera counter worked in C1 until ver 3.6. I am still using my 1ds with ver 1.3 because the camera counter will work in that ver and I dont have to go thru another program to get it to work.
