Archive downloads
Hi. I recently upgraded CapOneExpress to Pro8. I was fully aware that my Canon 5d is not recognised by the later versions of CaptureOne so intended to use in the same way I have been doing. Which is to shoot tethered to an earlier version that does recognise the 5d, and process the image with the later version. When purchasing Pro8 it said I would be able to download and use earlier versions, so thought I would download version5, the latest version that recognises the 5d I believe. Having done so now I find that the version5 in the archive downloads doesn't allow tethered shooting, and also seems that I am only able to "TRY" the software for a limited time as I don't have a licence no. for it. The obvious answer is to upgrade my ancient 5d, but that isn't possible at the mo. So the question is, can I download CaptureOnePro5, and use it for unlimited timescale? Also Pro8 needs at least OS Mavericks to run the software, but Mavericks wont run a Power PC Applications, Which I suspect Pro5 would be. If anybody has any answers it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Canon has discontinued the Tether Support of the 5D in their public SDK.
The last Canon Supplied SDK to support tethered capture with the Canon 5D was Capture One 5.2.1.
This version is supported on Intel Based Mac systems (not Power PC) up to OS version 10.6.4.
You can download Capture One 5.2.1 (there is no Pro, Express or DB version, only one software) and then activate it using your Capture One 8 Pro Key to access the software in the Pro Mode.

Thanks V. Much for that. Will give it a whirl. Cheers! 0 -
Just re-read your reply Drew. Are we saying CaptureOne 5.2.1 won't work with OS X 10.9 or even 10.6.8 which I am currently running? 0 -
It should work with 10.6.8 but if their is a major issue in operation, I am afraid their is nothing we can do to amend the operation of the 4+ year old software 0 -
As an addition, you might have a look at this post from Drew, from 18 Jan 2013:

It boils down to the fact that Capture One 6 does not officially supports the Canon 5D for tethering, as already mentioned, due to a newer Canon SDK, but it might work anyway. This opens the option to use a more recent version of OS X and a more recent version of CO as well.
If you are interested, from my notes on the Canon SDK and the version of Capture One:
CO 5.2.1 > SDK 2.8.0.5 (Canon 5D supported)
CO 6.0 - 6.1.1 > SDK 2.9.0.7 (this means 6.1.1 is the last version with 2.9.0.7)
CO 6.2.0 - 6.4.2 > SDK 2.10.0.10
CO 6.4.3 - 6.4.4 > SDK 2.11.3.0
CO 6.4.5 > SDK 2.12.10.4
Each SDK version after 2.8.0.5 (with higher number) makes it more unlikely your Canon 5D works tethered.
Hope this helps and does not add confusion. 😉0
