Import of images fails - exclamation mark in triangle

Wow, image import not working any more - images still show in the import dialog window, but then after pressing import it takes long and the importer images do not show. I only get a question mark in the little thumbs viewer and a question mark in the main window. What's wrong?

Thanks for help. My wife already calls me crazy to spend hours trying to fix it to see our last pictures. I feel the heat......

  Can you provide some more details?
  Are you using a Session or Catalog? If a Catalog, are you importing INTO the Catalog or from a CF card to an Destination on the HD? Are the images already on a HD and you are simply referencing them to a Catalog?
  
  It sounds to me that either the files themselves carry an issue or there is a Permissions access issue with the location.
  Sometimes users will import to a Catalog from a CF card but use the "Store Files: Current Location" option by accident. A catalog cannot Import AND Reference files on a CF card, the files must be imported to the Hard Drive... either into the catalog or to a HD location and referenced.
