Sessions and Catalogs – The best Workflow
Hi friends,
I mostly use sessions for tethered shootings in my studio. I then copy the whole session folder to my home office computer. There I do my initial ratings and adjustments with Capture One within the session file. I also use photoshop and save those retouched images in a special psd folder also in the session folder. and also other folders for each client or task.
As I find it useful to have all my shootings in a catalog and to work on the pictures in there I think about how to manage it.
First there is the possibility of importing the session into the catalog. When I import a session (→ Import Session) Capture adds a the session as a user collection. But only RAWS are imported. This is not so useful.
It seems to be more sensible when I import the entire session folder ( → Import Images and then the folder with all content) it also functions, all adjustments made within the session are also overtaken in the catalog and by using this method all the pictures are going to be imported, also jpg and psd files. Therefore I am also able to work on psd from in the catalog. I have all content in my catalog which I take for granted. No user collection is added but I can toggle in the library to open the folder there. This is more what I want. In the library all my shootings are available and from here I can do further retouching and so on. Is there anything I didn't consider?
Ultimately I can delete the session file .cosessiondb because I don't need it anymore. all is stored in the file .cocatalog now. is this correct? I never did it so far, always worked in my session files and didn' t really use the catalog system but I think changing my workflow in the way I explained would make sense. Again my question if there is anything I didn't consider?
If anybody has a clue it would be great.
Greetings,
Sven
