Tell us about your work flow.

For example do you use the "Move to Selects" folder much? How do you set up your Sessions when you create new ones?

What About file naming? Do you rename on the basis of the Session name or use the out-of-camera file names? Do you allow the camera to cycle through 9999 names or do you reset the name counter in the camera frequently?

I create a job session. " Hunington Library San Marino"  " Train Station Burbank" etc.

I use the out of camera file names 0 thru 9999.

    Thank you

    Paul,

The way a session works at the folder level is quite simple.

You will have a folder with some images in it.

If you open that folder in a Capture One session using any of several options available, C1 will check if that Image store folder also has a "CaptureOne" folder. If it does the Capture One folder is expected to contain 2 more folders -  a "Cache" folder in which can be found Thumbnails and Preview files and a "Settings" folder. For Capture One 20 (Build sequence number 13) the Settings folder will likely be named Settings130 or maybe Settings131 if it was created after the V13.1 build update.

Ideally when you create a session will have set it up in a folder that uses the name of the job. In that folder C1 will create default folders for Capture, Selects, Output and Trash.

If you import your images to "Capture" or subfolders within the Capture Folder using the import function they will automatically get the Cache and Settings folders and contents added as part of the process.

If you import the images to a folder OUTSIDE the default session structure they will also have the CaptureOne folder and subfolders created but they will be created in which ever folder you have direct the import process to send them to.

If you do npot use Import but simply copy into a folder somewhere and then open that folder with C1 the CaptureOne folder and subfolders will be created automatically as well - but will not be a part of the Job's folder structure. You can, however, associate the folder with a particular session by making it a "Favourite". Indeed you can associate any folder with any session and any folder with multiple sessions.

At this point before (hopefully) something quite simple starts to sound horribly complex it would be a good idea if you could check how your files and folders look compared to my description with a view to discovering if you really do have files from different jobs all saved in the same folders somehow or have one or more sessions that are associated with the same folders.

Either way at the moment, based on your description, I don't think that Reinstalling the application will do anything at all for you since this sounds like a data organisation problem. Additionally re-importing and re-editing should not be necessary IF you can see the files and folders in the sort of structure I have described above.

There may some file management to be undertaken - preferably using Capture One - but there is every chance that you have not lost anything. My only concern would be if you are seeing unexpected edits on images and there might be the possibility of different images for different Jobs having the same File Names. That could get a bit messy but can be dealt with if it turns out to be a problem.

Does that help you at all?
