tried what you said, and after reverting to 3.7.1 restarting computer and repairing disc permisions all was well (phew) no sign of any .list items or similar on the search for pahase one though odd...

will give it a go but i think the prob may be beyond that, maybe some sort of corrupt download.thanks for the advice though.gideon
