Culling RAW + B&W JPG is showing RAW in B&W
This is my first post in this forum. I just started using C1 Pro 23 after many years of using Aperture and Light Room mostly. I am very pleased with this transition so far, but came across an issue in my culling process when importing DNG + JPG files. I suppose my issue is applicable to any kind of RAW format.
As expected C1 is using the preview embedded inside these RAW files to to speed up the culling window. So even when I see color pictures for the RAW files in the processing mode and grid, I only see B&W in culling mode. Now, the main reason for me to use RAW+JPG B&W is to be able to choose what works best for the images (B&W or color) before I even start editing them. This is now not possible in the culling window...
"Regenerate Previews" does not help for this issue because it does not touch the RAW files embedded preview. Is there anything I can do inside C1 to have the RAW files show up in color?
I found a workaround using my old LR version, but it adds a step to my workflow i.e. I have to import all DNGs to LR, then "Save Metadata en Previews" on the files before making changes, and only after that import the files into a C1 session.

Disclaimer: Capture One is no longer part of my workflow, I have not upgraded past C1 20 or v13 depending on which of the company's two counting methods you prefer. Thus, you really should verify the following:

Why do you use the culling window. Is there a real benefit?
Just copy the images to your file system, use any session, navigate to the folder using the library tool and do the culling there, either tag those to be deleted or those to keep and delete the unwanted ones.

I want to use the culling window because of the grouping option and because of the speed of the process. Shooting RAW + JPG means I have groups of minimal 2 and often many more. It is my goal to quickly reduce the number of files I want to work on.

FirstName LastName, I think that the explanation is, if you shoot with a B&W style, the raw file will contain all the colour data, but the embedded JPG from the camera will be B&W, and of course the JPG file itself will be B&W.
Because the import window (and the cull view if you use it after import) uses the embedded JPG for speed, you'll see the raws as B&W.
However... I don't know what brand of camera you are using, but for some of them, Capture One produces something to match the camera look by emulating the in-camera style you shot it with. You can change that by changing the base characteristics curve setting to Film Standard, rather than Auto, or the camera-style emulating setting. (For many types of camera Auto and Film Standard are the same thing, but if I understand it right, that is not the case for brands where it can emulate the in-camera style.)
So here is a suggestion.
(1) Import all the images, and don't worry about groups, or the colour of the preview at this point.
(2) Select all the raws. (You can use a Filter to do it quickly) and change the curve setting in base characteristics to Film Standard.
(3) Unfiltered again, so that you see the JPGs and the Raws.
(4) Now use the Cull facility - if my hunch is right you might now see the raws in colour and the JPGs in B&W.
If that doesn't work, it will have been a quick thing to try, but I don't know what else would work. I'm sorry I can't test the idea, because none of my cameras work that way with Capture One.

Ian Wilson Thank you for the suggestion. I tried something similar before, but it does not work. Even after changing the base setting culling view still uses the B&W preview image.
I use a range of camera's. Mostly Leica. My test was done with a Leica X2 set of images.
