What problem do you see this solving?
when working on multiple large projects the cached images can eat up a lot of space on the internal HDD

I'd like to be able to decide where the images are cached - e.g. on a fast external HDD / RAID etc.

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?
every time I edit new images
