From what I know, there are pending requests to allow using folder names in search/filtering, for example https://support.captureone.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/12390087332637-Search-collections-albums

Your only option for now is to flatten filenames: go through each folder and batch rename all files in it using template:

    [Collection Name] [Image Name]

Then using Display Name should yield results.

Have you considered using Keywords?  Not a zero work solution as you would need to keyword all files appropriately but, if I've understood the question, it should allow you to select just the files you want using Smart albums.

Marcin Mrzygłocki Thank you, I upvoted that request. Also many thanks for the suggestion, but I would like to avoid the necessity to keep files up to date to show in smart albums. In my experience with my manual workflows, it is just a matter of time before things run away from my oversight and fall apart.

Andy Davies It is how I did it so far. But it is a lot of manual labour to keep everything synchronised and I'm looking for an automatic solution (which seems it is not available yet). Thank you for your suggestion though!

SFA Thank you for your interest and effort! I'm trying to select files that survived the first culling. In my workflow, I ingest all photographs to SOURCE subfolder under a particular project upper folder, cull them to manageable amounts and then move those to the superseding folder (usually named YYYYMMDD-some_project_name_and_references). So what I would like to have, for instance, is all photos from 2023 that were made in 2023 and "survived" first culling and those were moved to the upper level and are not in the SOURCE folder anymore.

They would be in many different formats, including RAW, JPG, TIF, GPR... I do not ingest exported files back into the catalogue to avoid duplications and confusion about which files can be still worked on.
