Panorama idea(s)

What problem do you see this solving?

- Slower speed compared to other programs, even though the results are often better

• Have a progress bar during the "generating preview", or some other way to reassure the user that it's working on it
• An animation showing the placement attempts will help user decide when to abort if the algo is really struggling
• Better use of multithreading; it almost consistently stays below 100% CPU utilization (Mac Studio M2 12-core); better use of GPU
• When a photo is causing problems with the algorithm, give the user the option of ignoring it, or actually giving it a priority
• Maybe a "pre-preview" that's much faster; it will help to decide which perspective to use
• Allow browsing and editing of other photos while pano engine is working on the preview, rather than a modal window.

- Curved horizon, swirling, and other bizarre distortions, as well lost or strangely contorted photos on the outside, and general difficulty with panos with multiple rows of shots

- Wrong proportions on one side vs. the other

- Dealing with variations in exposure, e.g., in interior shots

- Inability to handle vertical panoramas... seems to always assume horizontal orientation

• Provide a way for a user to "sketch" the layout with some "key frames", before the preview or as the layout progresses; even better if the other photos instantly rearrange during sketching
• Provide a way for a user to choose a "reference" for how other photos' exposure should be adjusted; even better if exposure or color temp can be adjusted during "sketching"
• Allow building up of the panorama one photo at a time; the user positions it vaguely, and the software "snaps" it in place
• Allow movement of the key frames after preview generated, with other photos being instantly adjusted... this would be SO COOL.

- Moving foregrounds (people at an architecture shot, for instance)

- Moving features (tides and waves, trees moving)

• Allow selective erasing or deleting or cropping of a frame
• Allow "weighing" of frames that do not quite match

When was the last time you were affected by this lack of functionality, or specific tool?

Photoshop CS5.5 handled these photos beautifully, with absolutely no perspective correction needed, and was much faster... on a 2015 4-core iMac!

Are you using any workarounds or other solutions to achieve your goals in Capture One?

- Yes, I'm using Photoshop CS5.5! And Affinity Photo. Raw handling is better in Capture One, and Photoshop doesn't do Raw, so I'm exporting to TIFF, then processing in these apps.

When Capture One nails the pano, it's so much more beautiful... And Capture One Pro actually deals much better with missing spots. So, now I'm running the panos on all three programs, picking the one that looks best. To be honest, I selected Capture One Pro over other asset management systems precisely because it had a good built-in pano engine... so I want it to be perfect!
