Renumbering images is bizarrely out of sync

When I am renumbering "all" the images, the numbering system has gone nuts.  #1 is usually 1, 2 is usually 2, but then the numbers go all over the place.  3 digits 4 digits, no relation to the order, numbering like 0321 and 4495... Just way off. No clue what's going on.

  I've moved your post to what I hope is a more appropriate topic.

  When you are renumbering, what order are your images in before you start? What naming are you using to renumber them? Can you show us a screenshot of the renaming dialog box, so that we can see what tokens you are using?
