Capture One 20 (not all Styles work as layers)

What are the component tools in the style?

If you do and find a V12 or V11(?) image that is still using the V12 (or V11) processing engine (you do not need to upgrade the processing engine but you can if you wish. I normally clone the variant and then change the engine to see what any differences might be.) does that still work when processed in V20?

I switched Co20 to the v12 engine (still wouldn't let me apply as a layer)

One example of the settings that appear to be used on one of the Styles:

    WB (both Kelvin and tint)
    Expore
    Contrast
    Brightness

Highlight + Shadow from dynamic range

Levels (RGB) - but not the individual colors

    Clarity
    Structure

    Sharpening (Amount, Radius, Threshold

    Noise Reduction(Lum, Detail, Color

    Film Grain (type, Impact, Granularity)

If that wasnt' enough, I think that is it for one of the styles 😂

So, hardly anything going on then!

The two most obvious "possibles" I can think of are the NR and the HDR tools have changed.

HDR would probably be the first suspect because of that but as you already know the Processing Engine for the variant being processed might be a factor.

That said I have not observed any problems like that using pre-existing settings in images (not tried styles at that level as I rarely use them) whether the existing process engine for an image was V12 or V11.

No time to look at trying it right now but will see if you get any other responses when I check back in a couple of hours.

Could you try a style without Film Grain on a layer? Film Grain does not work on a layer but in CO12 you got a warning.

    Ah, good point Paul.

I have tried some Styles with HDR and NR and not had any problems.

I think you got me headed in the right direction.

I saved one of the Styles after removing the Film Grain layer and it allowed it to apply partially (nothing that Noise Reduction also could not be applied as a layer).

Given this worked in CO12, this is odd that styles with the Film are not even showing up at all in the Layers Style section. There has to be something else at play here too though. Built In styles that have "film Grain" at least show up as grayed out in the section.

I think that is the right starting point, but think I'm still missing something. Also peculiar that these styles would show up and apply partially in C012, but CO20 doesn't even have that option since they don't show at all.

When a style is grayed out when attempting to apply to a layer, it has a Black & White tool adjustment in it. At least, that was how it worked in Capture One 12.

I have to check how Capture One Pro 20 handles this.

This is true, but I haven't figured out what would cause a Style to not show up all all in 20 (in the layers section - but it does in the "global section"

The Film aspect is a good starting point. But there is another factor I haven't pinpointed yet (outside of a bug - tested on a few different computers and it is consistant)
