TIFF vs. PSD - capture one workflow
Hi there,
The old discussion: TIFF vs. PSD
I know it is kind of an old discussion, but also because of that - there are a lot of old threats in forums and I'm not sure wether those are up to date. If I'm correct, C1P improved the PSD compatibility with version 10. So the question is:
If you roundtrip to Photoshop do you choose .psd or .tiff and why? Or why would you choose one over the other?
Thanks for the tips.
Cheers

TIFF. It is a universal file unlike PSD. No need to lock yourself to Photoshop. Not that it's going away anytime soon but you might change software. Especially nowadays, I see people moving away from Adobe because of subscription only. Looks like Affinity Photo and Luminar are popular alternative.0 -
For me, since v.11, it is not so straightforward answer. I prefer to use TIFF, but now in C1 v.11 there are few new features, that available for PSD files only. Wesley wrote:

Yes, I realize that today also.
Exporting annotations, crop, and watermark as layer to Photoshop available in PSD only.
So it will depend if one outsources retouching to others.0 -
Thanks for the answers.
Yes, I'd love to ditch all the Adobe Software. Not just because of the subscription, but also because of the lack of performance in its programs. You especially realise that if you move from Premiere to Resolve.
I could live without those features. How about file size? Do you save a lot of space with .PSD format?0 -
Are there any quality differences between the two formats? 0 -
Sure, there are...
TIFF is more 'standard' one, but with PSD you can have additional functionality in C1. Makrup notes, watermarks as PS layers, Crop as a path, ...NNN636090685083091642 wrote:

Probably meant file image quality instead of say, quality of life features.
I never said to myself in the past that one format was better so image quality is negligible.0 -

I didn't do any extensive file size comparison. It's going to depend highly on if you're the type that makes a layer and flatten each time until finish or keep all the layers. For me, I save the TIFF in zip compressed option, it's smaller file size but take a bit longer to save.
Save your file in each format and compare.0
