New user - Need some simple workflow advice...
I am a new user of Capture One 7. I have a (hopefully) very simple question: apologies in advance if the question is already answered somewhere else, I've tried searching for it and not found the answer yet - but I may just be hopeless at working out what the right terms to search for are.
Here is what I am doing...
I perhaps could do this more easily if I used a Session for the initial working on a batch of images, and then import just the selected images (original and variants) to the catalog - but I'm not clear how to do this.
So, if anyone has any suggestions about how I could do what I describe above, I'd be most grateful.
Thanks a lot in advance for helping.
Here is what I am doing...
- I am importing images into catalogs, and storing the originals in folders on a drive connected to my Mac computer. {/*]
- I then go through the images and identify the best ones 308b9g92]
- I work on the images selected and generate some selected images for output308b9g92]
- I then want to delete the unwanted images, including the source image - but when I delete inside the Catalog it does not delete the original image.
- I know I could go to the finder and delete images directly from the folders they are in (after they are deleted from Capture One catalog) but I don't know how I would be able to tell in Finder which images are the ones to be deleted.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum and Capture One.
When it comes to deleting images from a catalog in Capture One, there are two things to keep in mind.
First, the collection that is selected in the Library tool. When you have an Album selected (User Collections section), the image will be deleted from the Album, not the catalog. Select any other Catalog Collection or User Collection and the image will be deleted from the catalog. Continue with the next point.
Second, when deleting an image from the catalog, it depends on whether this is a referenced (stored outside) or fully managed image (inside). As you described, it is stored outside the catalog. CO7 will provide you the option to either delete the link to the image but keep the original in place, or to trash the original as well. It will not move it to the catalog trash.
Fully managed images are move to the catalog trash.
Note that when you select a folder in the Folders section of the Library tool, you can only remove the folder and images from the catalog. You will not remove the original from the disk.0 -
Hello,
I am also fairly new to Capture One and have the same sort of question, regarding similar workflow.
In Aperture, when deleting a file from the projects menu, it moves the image file to the trash and i can empty that one later one.
In Lightroom, i can flag an image as "rejected" in my collections folder (album in Capture One) and then later one choose delete rejected photos.
This might be my limited knowledge of Capture One, but what i can figure out so far, i have to select and choose all my files directly after import in COP, before i move them into an album.
Because otherwise i will have to select them for deletion twice? One time in my album and then afterwards in the catalog folder? - Which would be rather tedious when working on hundreds of images.
Unless i off course select them in the catalog folder, directly after import.
Is this right, or is there an other way of doing this? - perhaps a suggested way 😉
Also is there a way to make an smart album for "album deleted images", so they do not become ghosts in the catalog?
In lightroom i can make a smart collection (smart album) which selects all the rejected images. Works sort of like a trashcan.
Kind regards....0 -
these are all good questions _ I'd be interested in the answers too:
* Is there a way to avoid having to delete images twice (once from album, once from catalogue) other than doing this before they go into albums?
* Is there an equivalent to the LR 'rejected image' method either as feature or workflow step - e.g. via a smart album?
Thanks in advance if anyone can provide guidance on these points0
