Trying to find the best photo book printer
Hi all,
For many years, I made my photo books with Apple's Aperture. I liked the quality of the product and I loved the flexibility of the software to make the book.
Apple has stopped supporting Aperture (as you all know), and recently Aperture stopped allowing the production of photo books.
So I'm looking for recommendations of where to go to produce my photo books. I see in forums that something called Presto Photo creates books from the Aperture template (via the production of pdfs), which I wouldn't mind trying but I'm not sure Presto Photo is still in existence (and the most recent posting on their forum is someone complaining that their credit card into was stolen as soon as they made an order). So I'm a bit wary of going down this road.
Some websites recommend the likes of Shutterfly or Mixbook, but I've used Shutterfly, and the books aren't really serious or professional quality. I use Nations Photo for prints, and they're great. Nations Photo does books, but the Nations books and the Adoramapix books are twice as expensive as all the others. (I'm willing to pay for quality, but I make a fair number of books and $200 is a lot for one book). I don't like the Lightroom book module -- too primitive and limited.
So . . . does anyone have any experience along these lines or suggestions? Any advice for getting the very best photo books?

There was a period when photo books were not available from Apple. However you can now order them from within the Photos app. I have ordered many from Aperture and now one from Photos. It looks identical to the earlier books. My only comment would be that there are fewer settings in the Photos app than in Aperture.0 -
I was wondering if anyone figured this out. My question is 2 fold.
1) can you make a book within capture one? If not what is the best option ? As the other user mentioned, I like flexibility on design - both layout and for images. I find that snapfish type books mostly have square photos which doesn't work wrlll with the majority of my landscape and portrait photos which are cropped so don't have extra room to cut out. And 2) the quality was low. I also tried amazon primes photo book and was not impressed with the final product- images were a little blurry and. Let a professional looking book like aperture.
2) for the photo books I have already made on aperture, what is the best option to print.

I have not made a book since switching away from LR. I personally have been quite happy with blurb and would use them again. My current thought is to try one of two ways to go: Export the images I want from C1 to TIFF - and import them into LR to create a book just like I have in the past
- or use blub's tool to work from those same files
I think I will start with option 2) since I am giving up on LR after all and I hear that the Blurb tool has some additional options that might fun.0 -

Your 2 is the way my wife and I work. I export 100% quality full size jpegs from Capture One. My wife imports the jpegs into the Blurb desktop application (much more comprehensive than the cut down Lightroom version) and creates the book.0 -

Funny you say that. My wife has made a lot more books than I have too. In our case she did them all in LR so I am unsure if she will want to learn a new tool for the next one or not. I guess I'll find out.0 -

To build your book you can use the very flexible SmartAlbums software:
With that tool you can export your album to pdf and print it where your want. Most companies like blurb accept Pdf to make book.
Like you, I come from Aperture, and really you can do better book with SmartAlbums. I love the ability to build your own template.
Ok the price is a little expensive for a personal usage but you can try it for free for 15 days.
