If you were to move a folder from Device (1) to Device (2) outside of Capture One, then yes, Capture One would lose the connection to the folder. But it would be easily restored. So if your folder structure was something like this

    My holiday pictures
    >2018
    >>Paris
    >>New York
    >2019
    >>Australia
    >>Singapore
    >>Antarctica

you could move the whole "My holiday pictures" folder. Once it was on the new drive, you would still see My Holiday Pictures in the Library in Capture One, but it would not know where to find it so you would use the Locate... function (right click the folder and choose Locate from the menu). As you have done this at the top level, that would be all you would have to do. The subfolders would be reconnected too.

Or you could do all the moving from within Capture One if that is convenient to you.

    Thanks Ian!

That sounds good to me.. I was looking for an option where I don't have to re-reference every folder.. what would be a pain in the a**.

    I will try that 😊

You could practise the process first by moving just one small folder with a subfolder and satisfy yourself that you know how to do it and that it works.

    Oh no don't do that!!!

I recently did just the same thing. I installed the new drive and copied the files over (I actually used this to test my backup by creating the new drive from backup). Once I was done I just remapped the drive letter of the newly added drive to be the same (clearly map the old drive to a new letter first).

Capture one will have no idea anything is different and will continue along happily and so will you.

This works for windows since it is drive latter based. Mac mounts drives by name but I don't see any reason that you could not rename drives to get the same effect but I have, obviously, not done that personally.
