Automate printing a test page every few days

Many of us have photo printers that will clog if not used at least every few days. Sometimes we go on vacation. While the fee little app InkJet Plumber will schedule a print at defined intervals, users have said it does not reliably wake a Mac from sleep in order to do this. Does anyone have experience with this little app and is it possible for it to wake a Mac reliably? If not, is there a simple way to automate sending a small print job to the printer? My HP office printer will let me email or fax to it, but high end photo printers lack these functions, or a simple way to automate a print job at intervals. Taking my printer with me, or using remote login (which is not the best security) is not my preference.
