Beware the Spot tool?
I can't understand how the spot removal tool in C1 has to be so sluggish. I have 3+ Ghz quad core, SSD and 32GB ram and yet it takes 2.5 seconds to work. Now, if you have a dirty image you might be tempted to use it many times, but be prepared. I had about 15 on a image that was nearly all sky (didn't realize my sensor was that dirty and they showed at f7.1!). Anyway, a white balance change after that took anywhere from 10-13 seconds every time I changed the slider! Argh. Then I realized it was having to reapply those slow spot removals. This might argue for making spot removal the last step in your processing.
Experimenting, I found that the Color Balance tools (master or one of the individual wheels) worked almost immediately. So you can sense these work in a different way that doesn't require reapplication of the spot removal tools.
Anyone have some tricks for spot removal that don't involve lots of heal layers and very strategic reference points?
Why C1 doesn't accelerate spot removal (I have a middle level GPU and acceleration is enabled) is baffling. Here is hoping this is totally reworked in C1 v20. Even better would be a way to have it identify the spots and ask you to remove them.
P.S.
Hopefully C1 embraces some AI influenced algorithms. Some adobe products (not my favorites) are announcing smart selection and Luminar has been putting this in their products. Everyone loves to bandy about AI, like an 'organic' badge, but I do believe it is starting to make inroads and it could come on very quickly. Just look at computational photography in smartphones.

What you are experience is not normal at all in my experience so understanding the reason for it may take some investigation.
GPUs are not necessarily used for everything as what they can deliver is not always appropriate to the task required.
I would suggest that you create a Support Case and discuss this with the C1 Support Team.
We could spend a lot of time speculating here ot maybe someone who has experienced and solved a similar problem will come along and offer advice but I would still suggest that you create a Support Case so that the teams can check your log files, look for anomalies and gain a full understanding of your work flow as part of the investigation.
