how to export to 8000x8000?
Hi - I want to open a c-1 file in another software but it says can't exceed maximum size of 8000x8000. I'm not sure if this means scale or pixls/inch, & where & how to resize the file - in the export menu? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm a beginner. Thanks.

I assume it means pixels. You can create a process recipe to use if your original is greater in size than 8000 on either dimension. In the Basic tab of the Process recipe tool on the Output tab, one of the things you can set is Scale. You could set that to Long Edge with the value of 8000 px. Then if your original would have been bigger than that, use the recipe you have created and the output will be downsized to have its longest dimension limited to 8000. So if your original had been say 12000 x 9000 your output would come out at 8000 x 6000. If your original is not larger than 8000, process using your usual recipe instead.

Thank you Ian - that did work. I've never exactly understood the proces recipes: I create 2 recipes - TIFF 16 & JPEG 8, but i use the export variants arrow in the upper right corner to export, & I always have to manually select the file type & bit depth. Should I be using the output tab instead to save a step? i did create a new recipe with 8000 as a border but it doesn't show up as a choice when i ust the export varaint arrow.
Now that I've changed the scale, I forgot what the original was...I think it said something like 32000 for one of the sides. Is there an optimum scale to use for most of the exports that don't need to be limited to 8000? I just leave the resolution to 300? I'm not printing yet anything out...yet.
I will reread the book.0 -
You sound very confused about exporting, using process recipes, scale, dimensions, resolution, etc.
I'd suggest you watch Phase One's webinars on their YouTube channel to understand all this a bit better. You could probably start with the "Getting Started" webinar, and I seem to remember there's another one about process recipes specifically.0 -
I will thanks. 0 -

If you set up process recipes, then you use them by using the Process button on the toolbar, not the Export variants button. The process button looks like a gear wheel. I can't remember if it is on the toolbar in the default set up under version 10, but it is on mine, and you can customise the toolbar as you like. (Right click it and choose Customise Toolbar...) I always use Process rather than Export, but either can get you the same output file in the end. Process has the distinct advantage of being able to use recipes you have saved rather than having to set up the parameters you want manually every time.
