Cannot Copy / Paste Metadata

From the video it looks like you are copying the metadata then switching to the target image and re-copying?

So in effect you are copying in the blank field from the second image and then pasting it back in.

Copy the first one. That will put the data into the clipboard.

Tick the field you want to paste in the clipboard and hit the Apply button.

The clipboard will remain populated with what was last copied to it until you copy in something else.

You can also make the changes in a couple of other ways - for example highlight all of the images you wish to change. Change the first one, copy the data to the clipboard, set the tics as required, hit the Apply button and the other file (or files if you have "Edit multiple variants" active) will be applied.

If is also possible and useful in some situations to make the field(s) you are working into active filters and display them in the filter tool. (IPTC data fields not exif data from the camera)

Once displayed you should see all current known values from the selected images currently in the browser. To add a file value to one or more images just select the images and drag over to the specific value you wish to apply and the update will be made.

    Hope this is useful information.

    Hi Grant,

    Thanks for the response.

In the video I have a single image selected, then in the metadata tab I edit the title then deselect all fields, select Title and click copy. I switch to a second image, deselect all fields, select Title and click Apply. This is the way I have been used to it working in Capture One 12.

If I follow the exact same procedure, but I have all of the images selected first - then the copy and apply from the metadata tab works as I expect it to.

If I copy just the Title using the metadata tab, but apply it with the Copy/Apply icons in the top right of the default interface layout - then it also works as I expect it to.

    Dom,

I think you will find you are copying for a third time from the image you are intending to past to.

The "From" line at the top of the tool will, if you can make it wide enough, identify the image whose metadata is currently saved in the clipboard. That would be a good way to check.

You can detach the Clipboard tool and make it wider but afaik for that tool width is not unlimited.

    Try this.

Select both the data source image and the target image(s).

Select the Source image and make sure the white surround displayed is the thicker white surround.

In the Metadata tool click the two way arrow and then unclick the fields you don't want to paste to the other image(s).

Make sure the one you do want to paste is ticked.

    Click the APPLY button.

That should then update the selected image(s).

If you need to copy all entries and paste them all you can shorten the steps using the keyboard key combinations mentioned in the pop-out help guidance window that appears if you hover the mouse over the two way arrow key.

    HTH.

    Hi Grant,

Thanks for this, your observations seem to be correct. I guess my confusion stems from the fact that this is functionality that I use often, but now it behaves differently. Perhaps the way I used it before was unintended and now they've fixed it.

Anyhow, I now have a way to do what I need so thanks again.

    Regards,
    Dom
