On a Mac, you can toggle between showing/hiding the tools with Cmd-T and between showing/hiding the browser with Cmd-B. I imagine it is Ctrl-T and Ctrl-B on Windows.

    Hi Ian
Thanks for the response much appreciated. Unfortunately Its not quite what I'm after, I don't wish to hide/show the the tools or the browser just for my cursor to jump from one panel to the other rather than having to manually click on them.

If you want to use keyboard hot keys there are facilities available (and user definable) to perform function directly in most cases thus avoiding the panels most of the time.

On that basis I can't really see a purpose for using a jump form one panel to another as having much purpose - especially when the tools in the tool panel are based on tabs (also how key selectable if you wish to use them that way) that are themselves user definable.

Personally I don't make extensive use of hot keys but I have watched videos made by people who do extensively use the hot key features and their rapid work speed is impressive.

What you are trying to do is switch active window focus. Question is, why? To what end?

    Yes, exactly!

I think the main reason I would find this useful, is when editing on set.
For example, If I'm moving in-between different session favourites folders in the tools window and also having to highlight different groups/sets of images in the browser, its frustrating having to keep clicking on each window.

Also when using the tab key (on the keyboard) to move through different fields in the tools window, again this can become frustrating as capture tabs through everything on the screen whether useful or not, if there was a hotkey straight to the tools window it would be a lot quicker tabbing to the required field.
For me at least it would seem to make life a little easier.

A number of changes were added in 9.1 + 9.2 to help with these exact usability cases where navigation required focus first - by adding direct properties to the library.

Select collection shortcuts for example allow you to navigate library elements like favorite lists without focus (or even a visible library) and are available in the edit menu (you have to add your own shortcuts though) I have next/prev set up to shft+cmd and dwnarrow/uparrow

For making selections we also have added a ton of ways to select by: same kind of rating, variant position and filenames (from a list).

The other problem sounds like it might be an OS setting (though I'm guessing you are on mac for this from the description).
In system -> keyboard -> shortcuts check your option is set to textboxes and lists only. Then tab wont cycle every addressable element in the tool bar, only the useful stuff.

    Amazing, thanks Jim!
That little OSX tick box has sorted out the tab issues.
I wasn't aware of select collections shortcut either which solves that problem as well, fantastic.
    Cheers.
