C1 re-writing previews when opening session on external HD
I'm assuming I have something set wrong, but this is a very frustrating issue.
Session is on an external HD. Lots of captures, so I can't just drag onto desktop to work on. Open session (various ways, direct click on session file, from C1, file>open and using pop-up window - problem happens still) and C1 starts re-writing all previews. Spinning gear on the toolbar menu, I click and it tells me generating previews.
C1 11.1; Mac OS 10.11.6. 2012 MacBook Pro with 1TB SSD; external HD is USB 3 G-Drive connected to USB 3 port on MBP.
The CaptureOne folder is in the Capture folder.
Preferences Preview Image size is set to 2560 pixels
All I want to do is make a couple of quick adjustments to the one image out of 3,000 I need. I don't want or need to write previews for all.
Thanks!

I'm on windows and am working on sessions over the local network without preview generation issue since 10.2.1 (there was a massive regeneration bug back then between 10.1 and 10.2.1).
But you seem not to be the only one reporting this viewtopic.php?f=71&t=28311

Yes, I have begged to no avail for a generation pause button.0 -

Do you have a way to filter for the image you want?
Part of the name for example or a keyword perhaps?
If so you should be able to filter for that as the session is opening.
Certainly it works using sessions and Windows. I would be surprised if it did not also work with Mac and catalogues.
I don't find my system writing new previews - but it is loading everything selected (everything if not filtered) into memory.

Thanks for referral to other thread. I also contacted support direct.
FYI I'm working with sessions, not catalogs.
I'll see if the filtering works, but sometimes we'll need to look through the session to find the image(s) we want to work on. I just don't understand why C1 is rewriting previews when they're there in the CaptureOne folder?0 -

It is re-writing them or simply copying them off the external drive into working memory (or local disk cache temporary file) ready for instant access?
What size of preview have you chosen to save? What are the pixel dimensions of your monitor?

Hmm. I'm not sure. I believe re-writing as the previews are pixelated. Which makes no sense when the CaptureOne folder has the previews cached???
Preview Image Size is set at 2560 in C1 Preferences.
Running on a MBP with external monitor. Laptop screen is 1680x1050. External monitor is 2560 x14400 -

Check the dates on the preview files on the external drive. Are they being newly created?0 -
Yes, it does look like it. And they're bigger files. Path I'm looking at is:
In Capture folder>CaptureOne>Cache>Proxies> the .cop file
What's also being created are new .cosessiondb.backup files. In fact on one session I now have the original .cosessiondb file and two other .cosessiondb files, .cosessiondb.backup and .cosessiondb.backup 10 -

And the dates on those? Capture One creates backup files like that before it upgrades a session to a new version of the software. So I have a Capture One session (among others) on my MacBook Pro called Capture One Session.cosessiondb. It shows it was created 17 September 2013, and last modified 5 May 2018 (last time I used that session). But the folder also contains Capture One Session.cosessiondb.backup created 1 December 2016, Capture One Session.cosessiondb.backup 1 created 27 January 2017, and Capture One Session.cosessiondb.backup 2 created 19 January 2018. (You can see the history of my updates to Capture One there!)

Another point here is that you seem to be running screens with different native resolution. Thus one way or another if you are displaying the images on both screens there is a good chance that one preview file will not suit both view sizes.
How that works is something I have not looked into. My notebook screen and my external monitor have the same resolution and the graphics processing options seem to work well on those occasions when I use both.
Meanwhile ... are you sure you are not re-opening a previously upgraded session? Or do you have some sort of automated backup that is creating the additional cosessiondb files?
