Adding a new computer to my workflow

This was originally posted in the MAC OS forum what this very likely the best place for the message. I have removed the original from said forum.

I am about to add a new computer to my workflow. The new computer will become my primary photo editing editing machine and will replace my current photo editing computer editing. I would like some advice on the following:

1) How can I copy my C1 catalogue and an images from one computer without loosing any edits or corrupting the catalogue (I am preserving the filesystem and hoping the new hard drive is mounted as the current hard drive)

Once I have achieve this, I would like to synchronise a copy of the catalogue and previews to my laptop but keep the raw files in the primary computer.

Any resources and advice on how to achieve this will be greatly appreciated.
